I am a proud first generation Filipino American—Chicago born!—and the first lawyer in my family. Through my parents' determination and hard work, they were able to provide a better life for us here in Chicago. They instilled in me the importance of giving back to the community that welcomed them and gave us so much opportunity.
For the past 17 years, I have raised my own family in the 20th Subcircuit. I am a proud mom of two sons who attend CPS schools. As a family, we serve meals to those going through challenging times at multiple churches and food pantries throughout Cook County. We participate in efforts to clean up the parks and the beaches along Lake Michigan.
As a Cook County Assistant State's Attorney, I represent John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital and its doctors and nurses. Stroger Hospital is a safety net institution which means it provides a significant volume of healthcare services to uninsured, low-income, and otherwise vulnerable populations, regardless of their ability to pay.
Being an officer and board member of numerous bar associations provides me with the opportunity to lead, collaborate and give back. I mentor less experienced attorneys and serve as a panelist and moderator at conferences and law schools to discuss important legal and community related topics. I volunteer my legal services to support victims of domestic violence, immigration challenges and working families in need.
Throughout my professional career, I have gained extensive litigation experience in high exposure cases as both a trial partner in a mid-sized law firm, and as a first chair Cook County State's Attorney. I understand the importance of allowing both sides to be heard and of resolving disputes with civility and respect.
If I am elected judge, I will draw from my life experiences of helping others in supporting the residents of Cook County. I will be compassionate while providing a fair and equitable ruling based on the facts and supported by the law. Importantly, I will continue to be proactively involved in my communities to foster the public's trust in the judiciary. I stand for the rule of law and believe that no one is above the law or below its protections.
